Some of you may not remember, but when I joined TOC last spring, it was to cover football recruiting.
Mike did a great job taking that over, and he turned it into a full-time job. This means, for the time being, I'll be putting recruiting roundups and breakdowns together again. I'm also going to continue to use the "Spartan Pupdate" title Mike came up with, because it's awesome.

This week, many top recruits were invited to "The Opening" at Nike's facilities in Oregon. Two 2014 MSU commitments, center Brian Allen and defensive lineman Enoch Smith Jr. were there and seemed to impress. Their measurables and combine results are here.
Here's a compilation of some comments and highlights. It looks like MSU has two very good players in these guys.
Brian Allen

SB Nation's Bud Elliott had good things to say about Allen (go to the 2:14 mark):

Enoch Smith Jr.
MSU commit. RT @SBN_Wescott: Enoch Smith, Jr. is built like an absolute tank. Has a base that screams lower body strength. Lean as well.

Enoch Smith, Jr. may have just had quickest move of day for a DT going from outside shoulder of OG to inside in a flash. Was barely touched.

Enoch Smith Jr. drawing great reviews at The Opening so far. Someone there told me he was "a stud and unblockable yesterday"

Some other things.
Two JUCO offensive linemen MSU is looking at are Raul Martinez and Justin Scott. Both are in California. With MSU losing three OL starters after this season, and possibly Skyler Burkland to injury, MSU wants some immediate contributors. Neither has an offer yet. Martinez is going to visit this fall, while Scott is from Detroit and played high school ball with Will Gholston for one year.
