Linking Laconically bids thee farewell

Steve Dykes

Oh, what could have been.

Russell Byrd is transferring with a year of eligibility left to finish out his college career at The Master's College out in California. By all accounts, Byrd is a great kid who just couldn't get it figured out in East Lansing. He came to MSU with loads of hype as a deadeye shooter with solid athleticism and good size. In the end, that hype might have played a role in derailing his Spartan career. That, and the nagging foot injuries that started while he was still in high school.

Despite all his troubles and the fans that berated him in social media, I know the majority of Spartans wish Byrd the best of luck. We'll always have that night in Iowa City, Russ.
