Your 2014 Michigan State Football Captains: Kurtis Drummond, Shilique Calhoun, and Travis Jackson

New, comments

The two fifth-year seniors and a junior were named MSU football captains for 2014.

The captains for the 2014 Michigan State Football team were announced today, and the biggest surprise was who was left off rather than who was named. Fifth-year senior safety Kurtis Drummond and junior defensive end Shilique Calhoun are the captains from the defensive side of the ball and fifth-year senior guard Travis Jackson is your lone captain on the offensive side.

There was no surprise as to the three players named, as all were regarded to be leaders of the team on and off the field. The surprise comes more from who was not named captain. Quarterback Connor Cook was thought by many to be named captain. Punter Mike Sadler's name was also speculated as a possible captain along with fifth-year senior wide receiver Tony Lippett.

In all though, three very good choices for captain. Even though Cook may have been left out this season, he'll most likely be named captain next year barring an electric performance throughout this season that pushes him to go pro. Congratulations to Drummond, Calhoun, and Jackson; here's to representing the Spartans proudly this season.
