Fall camp officially began last week with conditioning tests and practices in shorts, but the real football began this afternoon, as today was the first practice in full pads for the Spartans. That's always an exciting day for the players and the coaches, who will start to get a better idea of what they have going into the season. With the pads on, position battles will become more clear, and certain players will begin to set themselves apart from the rest of the group. It also means kickoff is just that much closer.
Hearing about the first day in pads takes me back to my glory days as a 5-foot-8, 145-pound receiver that hated getting hit.
