It's finally time to get the bad taste from the Oregon game out of our mouths. There may be nothing worse as a fan than enduring an early season bye week after a loss. I spent this past Saturday chasing the feeling of important football and saw my alma mater Grand Valley State get so shafted by the referees that their league issued an apology. Needless to say, I am looking forward to the Spartans laying waste to the Eagles today. I know Dantonio said he won't run up the score and that's ok by me, but I sure hope our Spartans look dominant today.

Eastern Michigan Famous Alumni: There were some fun options this week, with Judge Mathis of TV fame being a personal favorite. I also considered Ron Campbell, the CEO of the NHL's Tampa Bay Lightning, because you know I will try to work in hockey any way I can. However, I stuck with a football alumnus for the Eagles, with a Lions quarterback from my childhood, the one and only Charlie Batch. Batch played at Eastern from 1994-1997 and threw for over 7,500 yards and 53 touchdowns. In his 15 seasons in the NFL with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Detroit Lions Batch threw for 11,085 yards and 61 touchdowns.
"Francisco That's Fun To Say": So I went a different direction this week, not focusing on pronunciation of the name but rather what name just looked fun. While Pudge Cotton was a fun name that brings back memories of the 2006 Tigers, my mind was made up before even studying the Eagles roster. When there is a name like Lion King to choose, for a kid who grew up with Disney movies of the 90's, there is no way you don't make that name of the week. King is a freshman defensive lineman for the Eagles from Southfield, MI. He has yet to take the field for the Eagles, presumably staying safe at Pride Rock but I just cant wait to be see King.

Interesting Eastern Michigan University Fact: While the football team's struggles paint a picture of a poor athletic department, the Eagles actually have the program with the most MAC titles in any one sport. The men's swimming and diving program has won 29 MAC titles, including 8 in a row from 1988-1996.
