Linking Laconically is cautiously optimistic

Mike Carter-USA TODAY Sports

Michigan State hoops is enjoying its first bye week of Big Ten play, going six days without a game before a chance at payback at Maryland on Saturday. Still, it's been a nice week already for the Spartans. Wisconsin lost to Rutgers, giving the rest of the league hope the Badgers won't run away with the title, while Denzel Valentine and Matt Costello both avoided any major illnesses. With all of that, MSU is in about as good of shape as anyone could have hoped following that conference opening loss to the Terps.

I'd still argue Wisconsin is clearly the best team in the conference, but the loss to Rutgers and Jackson's injury really opened the door.
