Last night saw the completion of the NHL playoffs' first round with the Tampa Bay Lightning ending the season of the Detroit Red Wings 2-0 (while also ending the seasons of Justin Abdelkader and Drew MIller). The Spartans started the NHL postseason with eight alumni chasing the Stanley Cup and that number has been cut in half to four. So if you are looking to see a Spartans' hockey alumni hoist the Stanley Cup you will be pulling for either Calgary or Chicago out of the West and Montreal from the East.
NHL Alumni
Name | NHL Team | GP | G | A | PTS | Still Playing? |
Justin Abdelkader | Detroit Red Wings | 5 | 0 | 2 | 2 | NO |
Drew Miller | Detroit Red Wings | 7 | 1 | 1 | 2 | NO |
Corey Potter | Calgary Flames | 2 | 0 | 0 | 0 | YES |
Duncan Keith | Chicago Blackhawks | 6 | 2 | 5 | 7 | YES |
Jeff Petry | Montreal Canadiens | 6 | 0 | 0 | 0 | YES |
Mike Weaver | Montreal Canadiens | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | YES |
Jim Slater | Winnipeg Jets | 4 | 0 | 0 | 0 | NO |
Ryan Miller | Vancouver Canucks | 3 | 2.31 GAA | .910 save % | 1-1 | NO |
- Duncan Keith clearly is the top performer in the NHL playoffs thus far. At this rate he may end up in goal with Chicago if they continue to get Corey Crawford goaltending.
- Drew MIller is the only other Spartan to score in the 1st round? Um ok.
- Jeff Petry finished the season hot with Montreal but was held scoreless in the 1st round series win over Ottawa. He will hopefully get it going against the Lightning starting Friday.
- Ryan Miller didn't begin the series but came into game 4 in relief of Eddie Lack and won game 5 for the Canucks. He unfortunately was in net for the series ending loss to Calgary.
