Michigan State Spartans players are far from giving up on this season, with the upperclassmen calling a players-only meeting following the Indiana loss.
Per MLive.com’s Kyle Allen, the message was clear:
"We let them know that what's happened here the last two weeks is something that's embarrassing," [Junior offensive lineman Brian] Allen said. "It shouldn't happen here. We have the talent and the attitude that guys have passed on to us that we can't let it drop off."
Only a handful of fifth-year seniors were on hand for the team’s last down year, a 7-6 finish in 2012. MSU’s 0-2 start in conference play is the first since 2007, nearly a decade ago.
For his part, Dantonio is reiterating that the season is far from over, saying "We're not cashing out this year yet... We're a 2-2 football team."
Dantonio has said before that the team’s younger players were “born on third” and haven’t experienced struggles yet. That might change this year, but perhaps that players-only meeting will help the team regain its focus.
