Gameday is here for Michigan State as they face Kentucky in the Champions Classic.
The annual event features four blue-blood programs in Kansas, Duke, UK, and MSU squaring off in a double-header. The Spartans will be playing in the first game, followed by No. 1 Duke vs No. 9 Kansas in the second game.
Michigan State won the only other meeting between the teams in the Champions Classic, which was a 78-74 win in 2013. Tom Izzo has a 5-2 career record vs Kentucky, including a 4-1 mark since 2000.
Izzo has denied the state of Kentucky four Final Four berths over the last two decades. Izzo beat UK in the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight twice (1999, 2005) and has beaten Louisville in the Elite Eight twice as well (2009, 2015).
If MSU is going to upset UK this time, the Spartans need a big game from Miles Bridges. The freshman forward was named Big Ten co-Freshman of the Week on Monday after scoring 21 points with seven rebounds in Friday’s loss to Arizona. He was 9-for-19 from the field and became the first Michigan State freshman to score 20 or more points in his debut since Jay Vincent scored 25 in 1977.
