There might not be a tournament title at stake between Michigan State and Wichita State on the final day of the Battle 4 Atlantis, but there still will be plenty to play for when the Spartans and Shockers square off in the third-place game on ESPN2.
MSU is coming off a rough loss to No. 20 Baylor, who outscored the Spartans 43-25 in the second half of Thursday’s semifinal matchup. MSU lead by double digits in the first half and was up 33-30 at halftime, but the lack of depth once again cost the Spartans down the stretch.
Alas, if the Spartans can beat Wichita State, they’ll come out of this tournament with a 2-1 record, which is fine considering this was a nice field with two teams (Baylor and Louisville) who both could be in the top 15 of next week’s polls.
It also means that Michigan state’s three losses thus far could be to top-15 teams as No. 1 Kentucky and No. 10 Arizona figure to be around those same spots next week.
