Another Michigan State player has just been awarded the Big Ten Freshman of the week award. This time his name isn't Miles Bridges.
The Big Ten announced Monday that the award this week would go to the Spartans Nick Ward, who has been getting better every time he touches the floor this season.
Currently Ward is Michigan State’s tallest and biggest player with injuries to Miles Bridges, Ben Carter, and Gavin Schilling. If you were worried that a 6’8 Nick Ward would not be able to get the job done, being the only healthy player above 6’6 on the squad then you were sadly mistaken.
Throughout the week Ward averaged 20 minutes per game, 17.5 PPG, and 6.5 RPG during games against Duke and Oral Roberts.
With Miles Bridges sidelined due to a bad ankle, Ward took it upon himself to carry the team to victory, posting His first double-double of the season. He finished with another season high of 24 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks to go along with it.
Does Michigan State possibly have some of the best freshmen if not the best freshmen in the Big Ten? So far the award has been handed out four total times. Three of those went to the Spartans, Bridges got two of them and now Ward. This could definitely spell trouble later on in the year for their Big Ten counterparts.
Congratulations to Nick Ward on being named the Big Ten's Freshman of the Week!https://t.co/IcLwziFG2L pic.twitter.com/wkM5uhprLn
