NFL Reporter: Connor Cook Should Be a Top-15 Pick in the NFL Draft

"Don't make too much out of stories you read in August about who was named a captain at Michigan State."

Former Michigan State Spartans quarterback Connor Cook has drawn questions about his leadership abilities ahead of the NFL Draft, in large part because he wasn't selected a team captain as a senior.

But Fox Sports NFL reporter Peter Schrager has Cook going at No. 15 to the Los Angeles Rams, higher than almost any other analyst.

In an appearance on Colin Cowherd's radio show, he explains why.

"Connor Cook is going to be a first-round pick," he says. "Everyone after the NFL Combine will get in on this. I've spoken to a lot of teams the last two weeks. The one rub on Connor Cook is that he wasn't a captain his senior year. Guess what? Not everyone is a captain their senior year."

Schrager notes that Cook is 6-4 and a four-year starter that's got the required skill set, calling him a lot more of a sure bet than Memphis quarterback Paxton Lynch.

"After this week when (Cook) talks to the teams and the media gets a chance to actually speak with him in person, they'll realize this kid's pretty cool," Schrager says. "Don't make too much out of stories you read in August about who was named a captain at Michigan State."
