The NBA Summer League can be a great platform for fringe and unknown players to jumpstart their pro careers.
For Bryn Forbes, he's done just that. After a great showing with the Spurs' summer league team, San Antonio will sign the former Michigan State Spartans star to a contract, according to a press release from the team. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed, so it's unclear if this contract involves any guaranteed money, of if Forbes will have to continue fighting to secure his roster spot this summer and into the fall.
Regardless, this is great news for Forbes, who went undrafted in last month's NBA draft, but was quick to join the Spurs on what amounts to a tryout while playing with their summer league team. Forbes more than showcased his ability to make an impact in the NBA, so it's not much of a surprise they've already signed him to a contract.
As of Thursday, Forbes is still playing with the Spurs in the Las Vegas Summer League. He’s averaging 11.1 points and 3.3 rebounds in 25.3 minutes in seven total games between Las Vegas and the Utah Summer League.
His biggest game came in Utah, where he scored 23 points on 8-of-10 shooting to go with 4-of-5 shooting from three-point range while grabbing three boards.
Congratulations to the former Spartan on earning a contract with one of the premier NBA franchises.
