MSU’s Ed Davis One Step Closer to Playing in 2016

NCAA Football: Michigan at Michigan State Mike Carter-USA TODAY Sports

The hard part is over.

Ed Davis is offically a graduate from Michigan State University. According to a tweet from Matt Adolph, the Defensive System Analyst for the team, the MSU linebacker completed his degree Thursday after taking summer classes to fulfill his undergraduate requirements and has now is playing the waiting game with the NCAA.

Davis has been sitting out the better part of the past two weeks of MSU’s fall camp and he and the team are awaiting the word from the NCAA on if they are going to grant him the waiver for his sixth year of eligibility. He has been at the camp thus far but has only been allowed to participate as a “student-coach”. Coach Dantonio has continued to seem optimistic on the chance of Davis being granted his sixth year through out the last week and a half, saying that everything “should be good.”

Davis missed the entire 2015 season after he tore his ACL last pre-season, but he earned all conference honorable mentions honors in 2014 so having him back in the rotation along side Bullough would be a welcome addition to a defense looking to bounce back after a season that seemed uncharacteristic compared to seasons past.
