Today we saw the release of the first edition of this year’s Amway Coaches Poll.
The Coaches Poll is conducted weekly throughout the regular season using a panel of head coaches at FBS schools. They panel chose the panel by random draw, conference by conference plus independents, from a pool of coaches who are willing to participate. First-place votes are worth 25 points, second place 24, and so on down to one point for 25th.
As can be expected, Michigan State fell in the lower portion of the upper half of the poll, landing at number 11 with a total of 901 votes (well ahead of Ole Miss at 12 with 792 votes)
No surprise in Alabama being ranked 1 and bringing in 55 of the 64 first place votes. Other teams to receive a first place vote were Clemson (7), Florida State (1) and Tennessee (1). While Jimbo Fisher was voting and presumably put FSU first, not sure who picked the Vols, who ranked 10th over all, as the favorite going into the season.
