Finally, college football is back.
For the Michigan State, the new season begins Friday night when they host Furman out of the FCS ranks. Friday’s matchup is the first-ever meeting between Michigan State and Furman, as well as the Spartans’ first opponent from the state of South Carolina.
Michigan State enters the 10th season of the head coach Mark Dantonio era in 2016 ranked No. 12 in the AP Poll and No. 11 in the Coaches Poll. The Spartans are coming off a 12-2 season in 2015, winning the Big Ten Championship and reaching the College Football Playoff. Furman is coming off a 4-7 season, finishing sixth in the Southern Conference.
There is no question this game is meant to be a tune-up affair for the Spartans, whose schedule quickly heats up when they play at Notre Dame in Week 2, followed by their Big Ten opener at home vs Wisconsin.
