The Michigan State Spartans have landed their second Class of 2017 commitment.
It comes in the form of four-star power forward Xavier Tillman, who committed to MSU on Friday. He made his pledge at a ceremony at Grand Rapids Christian High.
The 6-9, 250-pound Tillman is ranked by ESPN as the 75th-best prospect in 2017. 247 has him ranked 85th overall. Rivals.com ranks him 86th overall.
The Grand Rapids Christian big man is one of the top prospects from the state of Michigan, and he picked the Spartans over Purdue, Marquette, Indiana, Iowa, Ohio State, and Virginia Tech among others.
Here is Tillman’s ESPN scouting report:
Strengths: Tillman is a big body low post scoring and rebounding threat. He has a variety of post moves that he executes good hands, touch and footwork. He is physical scores through contact and area rebounds at a steady rate.
Weaknesses: Tillman will need to work to improve his athleticism as much as possible and extend his shooting rage to 15-17 feet in addition to a plan to deal with players that have great length.
Bottom Line: Tillman is a low post scorer and rebounder that has the size and ability to be effective at the major college level.
Tillman joins five-star power forward Jaren Jackson, who announced his commitment to the Spartans two weeks ago. MSU is now poised for a top 5-10 recruiting class in 2017 that could be one of the two or three best if the Spartans land their remaining top targets.
Five-star win Brian Bowen and four-star shooting guard Noel Eastern are still on the board, and MSU is in in great shape for both prospects.
