WATCH: QB Tyler O’Connor Breaks Down Michigan State’s Win Over Furman

“We have a lot of things we’ve got to fix up. We stopped ourselves more than they stopped us.”

Tyler O’Connor did enough to get a victory in his debut as the Michigan State Spartans’ starting quarterback.

While the 28-13 win wasn’t what fans might have wanted, O’Connor finished a respectable 13 of 18 passing for 190 yards and 10.6 yards per completion. He also threw touchdowns passes against one interception.

In this video posted by MLive.com, O’Connor breaks down the win in a press conference following the game:

“I kind of look at myself as a perfectionist,” he says. “I try to do things 100 percent right all the time, and I don’t think I did that today. That being said, you can’t get too low or too high as a quarterback. I’ve learned that over the years. A win is a win, we’re okay with it, but we have a lot of things we’ve got to fix up. We stopped ourselves more than they stopped us.”

He then goes over a few situations where the Spartans stopped themselves, including penalties deep in Paladin territory and an ill-timed fumble.

“As an offense, we’re okay with what happened, but we’ve got to erase a few things and put it behind us,” O’Connor says. “We moved the ball, we did some great things, had some guys make some plays. We had an offensive line that was physical and running backs that were physical, so we’re okay.”
