Latest SBN mock draft has Malik McDowell going to Detroit

Could the DT be staying in Michigan?

Former Michigan State Spartans standout defensive tackle Malik McDowell is widely expected to become a first-round pick in the NFL Draft.

The question then becomes where he goes, and thus which team he suits up for next fall. One educated guess from SB Nation’s Dan Kadar has him staying not all that far from East Lansing: to the Detroit Lions at No. 21 overall:

For Detroit, McDowell could be a versatile pick who can play inside and outside. His stats don’t back it up, but he can be an effective pass rusher thanks to his quickness and ability to slip off blocks and create disruption.

It would be a destination many MSU fans would applaud since he’d be playing for the local NFL team. But there’s a long way to go and a lot of decisions to be made before April 27 rolls around.

The same mock draft features several Big Ten alums, including Ohio State’s Malik Hooker to the Chargers at No. 7 and Michigan’s Jabrill Peppers to the Browns at No. 12.

Kadar’s picks also include former Notre Dame quarterback DeShone Kizer to the Bears at No. 3.
