The Michigan State Spartans’ resurgence is still going strong.
On Saturday, Matt Coghlin kicked a 34-yard field goal as time expired to give No. 24 Michigan State a 27-24 victory over No. 7 Penn State.
Brian Lewerke threw for 400 yards and two touchdowns for the Spartans, but it was Coghlin's winning kick that gave the Spartans another win over a top-25 foe this year.
The redshirt freshman made the kick, then ran back down the field and slid across it on his stomach while his teammates joined him in celebration.
"I wasn't really thinking about the celebration," Coghlin said. "Just dove on the ground. I don't know why."
Thanks to a loss by Ohio State at Iowa, the Spartans are now in complete control of their fate in the Big Ten.
