Early singing day rundown: Live updates of MSU football’s big day

A quick look at all 2018 players signing with the green and white

NCAA Football: Indiana at Michigan State Mike Carter-USA TODAY Sports

Folks, happy (early) National Signing Day.

Huge day for our Spartans — and future Spartans — as 20 seniors are expected to sign today. Before 9:15 a.m. rolled around, all but three seniors signed with the other trio expected to ink the NLI later today.

Here’s a quick rundown of the 2018 class that signed early. All rankings are per 247Sports, which has this class ranked No. 23 as it stands.

3-stars Jacob and Zachary Slade

You might as well call East Lansing the city of brotherly love, making the Slade duo just another set of siblings that will be playing for MSU.

3-star cornerback Chris Jackson

Straight out of Georgia, Jackson looks to be the next big cornerback from the Peach State.

3-star linebacker Ed Warriner

Coming off an ACL injury his junior year, Warriner is a diamond in the rough finding out of Ohio.

3-star offensive lineman James Ohonba

Once ranked a 4-star on 247Sports, Ohonba arguably has the most impressive measurables amongst this class. At 6-foot-4, 366 pounds this kid is a house of a lineman.

3-star wide receiver Julian Major

As it stands, Major is the lone wide receiver signing in this class. It’s no secret -- he’ll be joining an already-impressive corps up in East Lansing.

4-star athlete Xavier Henderson

As the first commit of this 2018 class, Henderson has shown strong commitment to the green and white for quite some time. The Co-Ohio Defensive Player of the Year could make an early impact as a Spartan.

4-star tight end Trenton Gillison

Gillison didn’t wait long to commit after his high school teammate Henderson did, giving this class two 4-stars off the bat. At 6-foot-5, 220 pounds Gillison has the frame to become a monster at tight end.

3-star running back Elijah Collins

Depending on what they do with La’Darius Jefferson, Collins is the lone running back signee in this class. That bodes well for Collins as he could see some significant touches as early as next season.

3-star cornerback Davion Williams

Also a solid basketball player, Williams is an athletic player that has been shooting up in recruiting rankings as of late.

4-star quarterback Theo Day

MSU’s impressive haul of quarterbacks took no break this year, signing Day out of Dearborn Divine Child.

4-star cornerback Kalon Gervin

Rated as the top recruit in this class, Gervin is the jewel of 2018. He had just about every program after him before selecting Michigan State over Oregon.

3-star offensive lineman Dimitri Douglas

Rated as a top 50 offensive tackle in the nation, Douglas will look to dive into competition with other stellar, young offensive lineman.

3-star athlete La’Darius Jefferson

This makes back-to-back Mr. Footballs enrolled into Michigan State as Jefferson joins Cody White in that company. Though a quarterback in high school, it’s expected Jefferson will play either running back or linebacker.

3-star linebacker Chase Kline

This kid has some impressive film, and you can really see a Michigan State linebacker in the way he plays. Get used to this physical, high-motor linebacker.

3-star linebacker Jeslord Boatend

Another solid Ohio linebacker comes into East Lansing as a top-50 ranked linebacker. Just the words “Ohio linebacker” are enough to get us excited.

3-star safety Michael Dowell

Joining brothers Andrew and David Dowell -- both who were huge for MSU this season — Michael shows how strong the family ties are in East Lansing.

3-star athlete Javez Alexander

A quarterback in high school, Alexander is recruited as an athlete. Dantonio knows he’s getting a solid all-around player with this Ohio product.

3-star defensive end Parks Gissinger

The furthest out recruit from Los Angeles will look to be a strong pass rusher.

3-star offensive lineman Jacob Isaia

Grandson of MSU Hall of Famer Bob Apisa, Isaia comes in as one of the most underrated recruits in the bunch. While a 3-star, Isaia comes in as the No. 15-ranked center in the country.
