Michigan State didn’t defend much of anything during Tuesday’s shellacking at the hands of Michigan.
That wasn’t the case Saturday as the Spartans held Iowa to just 66 points after the Hawkeyes were averaging 80.5 ppg, good for 37th nationally. That included just 21-of-64 shooting (32.8%) from the field for Iowa and 4-of-21 from three-point range (19%), one of their worst offensive outings this season.
Needless to say, Tom Izzo loved seeing his young Spartans stifle one of the Big Ten’s best offenses in a 77-66 win.
“This was a big win for us – they were playing pretty good,” Izzo said. “We did an unbelievable job defensively, I thought an unbelievable job rebounding the ball. Unbelievable."
