Michigan State is likely still in the NCAA Tournament if the field was set today, but Wednesday’s loss to Illinois certainly didn’t help the Spartans’ cause.
It was a game that had head coach Tom Izzo wondering if his team was focused enough, something that didn’t appear to be the case as they committed 15 turnovers, which ultimately was the difference in the 73-70 loss.
"I was worried on Sunday night," Izzo said. "I told my staff, 'We're going to see if we get a little fat and sassy and figured we accomplish something.’
"The players did not bring what they needed to bring. It was not the focus that it needs to win on the road against a good team, and there's no question Illinois is a good and experienced team.”
