Blackwell, MSU’s Director of College Advancement and Performance, has been suspended with pay since February 9th in connection with the ongoing sexual assault investigation involving three still unidentified Spartan football players.
His contract had been extended on a month-by-month basis but Mark Dantonio confirmed today that it will not be renewed again following its expiration tomorrow.
Blackwell was once lauded as a home run hire for Dantonio. He helped bring aboard a several high profile players from Detroit but there had been internal rumblings that his performance in advance of the investigation had slipped.
The investigation remains open, but it appears Blackwell’s dismissal is the first of potentially several dominoes to fall.
