Forget Floyd Mayweather, Conor McGregor’s most entertaining opponent right now may be Draymond Green.
The former MSU star-turned NBA champion called out McGregor on his Instagram account which enticed a response from the UFC star. The fight started when McGregor was seen wearing a Golden State Warriors No. 23 jersey – but not Green’s No. 23, it was a C.J. Watson jersey.
McGregor wore the jersey as a shot at Mayweather. The boxer’s long-time girlfriend dated Watson after breaking up with Mayweather. But Green was still having none of that.
“We rocking with Floyd bro not you... take that off bruh @thenotoriousmma,” Green wrote in the post.
Never one to back down, McGregor responded to the comments on Green’s picture.
“That’s C.J Watson mate. I don’t know who the f*** you are. No disrespect tho kid, keep hustling and stay in school.” McGregor then continued in a second comment. “Now ask yourself why I’m rocking C.j when I don’t know or give a f*** about basketball. I dribble heads off the floor. Not a ball. This is no game here kid.”
Despite their different sports and dramatically different sizes – McGregor is 5-foot-9 and 155 pounds while Green is 6-foot-7, 230 pounds – the two athletes battle in very similar ways. Both Green and McGregor do just about anything they can to get inside their opponents head and have been known to rub opposing fans the wrong way because of their mouths. Then there is also the whole kicking thing...
McGregor and Mayweather will square off August 26 in Las Vegas. Hopefully Green will be among the celebrities sitting ringside.
