MSU football updates: New DBs coach, Paulino-Bell transfers and...a night spring game?!

Some January football tidbits on this fine Friday

NCAA Football: Holiday Bowl-Washington State vs Michigan State Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

Mark Dantonio is speaking at the annual MHSFCA conference today and has sprinkled a few January tidbits into the mix.

First and foremost, Paul Haynes has been hired as the new defensive backs coach. Haynes is coming off a four year stint of head coaching Kent State, and he’s also not a stranger as he coached defensive backs at MSU from 2003-04.

Also, with Harlon Barnett getting the Brinks truck at Florida State, Mike Tressel is now the sole defensive coordinator.

Lashawn Paulino-Bell transferring

Freshman defensive end Lashawn Paulino-Bell has transferred from the program, according to Dantonio. Last April he suffered internal injuries from a jet skiing accident and was also suspended for the Holiday Bowl.

Night spring game?

In more exciting news, Dantonio said the spring game will likely be on Saturday, April 7.

Not only that, but he’s already lobbying for a night game.

I mean, why not? The buzz is back in the program after a one year hiatus, it gives families a cheap night out and, who knows, maybe this could lead to some spring tailgating action.

Do you guys like the idea of a spring night game?
