MSU was dealt a big loss on Friday, losing 11-year assistant coach and previous co-defensive coordinator Harlon Barnett to Florida State.
Barnett, who graduated from Michigan State and spent 14 years on Mark Dantonio’s staff dating back to their Cincinnati days, will be getting a hefty pay raise. According to Pete Thamel, Barnett will be making nearly $1 million per season at Florida State – hard to knock a guy for taking that money.
Let’s not sugarcoat this at all – this is a blow to MSU. Barnett wasn’t just a great defensive coach that helped mold the No Fly Zone of 2013-14 and this year’s young corps. He was also a great locker room guy and an incredible recruiter.
You can see the impact he had on players with their reactions on Twitter – it’s all been positive.
One of the best people I've ever been around, and someone who treated every single person, player, and coach with the utmost respect. Very proud to have played for you, coach! https://t.co/JjSoNAz98l

Barnett did great things at MSU. Hopefully we’ll see him in green and white again one day.
