Ranking Mark Dantonio’s 100 wins: 2013 MSU bullies UM for win No. 7

A classic, pure beatdown

This should help out your Monday feeling.

We’ve got two wins over the rival left to go in this countdown, and this is the one that probably literally hurt the Wolverines the most.

We’ve got wins No. 100-8 right over here if you need a refresher.

Win No. 7

Nov. 2, 2013” No. 24 MSU 29, No. 23 UM 6

I don’t think Mark Dantonio is a violent man. But my goodness, does he and his teams have a bloodlust for anyone wearing a UM jersey.

If you had to point to one game to define the Spartan Dawg mentality, this could be the one.

How They Won

MSU beat demolished absolutely humiliated their rival in a revenge game from the year prior, holding their run game to -48 yards. You — yes, you — had 48 more rushing yards than UM’s entire team on that November afternoon.

This game included 11 tackles for loss and 7 sacks, including the illustrious rush-for-loss, sack, sack, punt on 4th-and-St. Johns combo that nasty MSU defense delivered to end the third quarter.

Denicos Allen lead the team with nine tackles and had three tackles-for-loss and two sacks. Shilique Calhoun and Ed Davis each had 2.5 sacks. Darqueze Dennard (who else?) also had an interception in the fourth quarter to hold UM out of the end zone for the second straight game in the rivalry.

The offense wasn’t too shabby either against the then-one loss Wolverines, coming up with their first touchdown in the final seconds of halftime. Connor Cook airdropped a pass to Bennie Fowler from 14 yards out to make it 13-6 at halftime.

After that 4th-and-31 debacle UM found itself in, MSU took its next drive to the end zone with a Cook rushing touchdown. Easy as that, it was 22-6 with 10:31 left in the game.

And hey, remember that Dennard interception we talked about earlier? This is what Jeremy Langford decided to do on that next drive...

What This Win Meant

Order was restored in the state with Paul Bunyan coming back home for the fifth time in six years.

This may have been the most satisfying win over Michigan in the Dantonio era simply because it was a 60 minute cage fight. Except a cage fight where one person had both arms tied behind their back.

This was also just one of the wins in MSU’s Big Ten season that took them back to Indy and eventually the Rose Bowl. Tough to top all of that on a November night.
