Welcome (finally) to college football game week!

Before we go all-in wrapping up MSU’s buildup to the season we put our genius, never-wrong brains together and took stabs at how we think this season will shake out.

Why waste more time? LET’S GET INTO IT.

Matt Sheehan

ACC Champion: lol, please over Virginia

Big 10 Champion: Michigan over Iowa (never too early to start working the reverse jinx)

Big 12 Champion: Oklahoma over Texas

PAC 12 Champion: Utah over Washington

SEC Champion: Georgia over Alabama

College Football Playoff teams: Georgia, Oklahoma, Michigan, Clemson

Team that will surprise people the most: Iowa is winning 10 games, y’all. I swear Kirk Ferentz isn’t behind me right now.

Your most boring take/prediction: Clemson goes undefeated (I yawned halfway through typing that).

A lukewarm take/prediction: The College Football Playoff has a two-loss team in it (probably Georgia) and Alabama misses the Playoff for the first time. There is NO WAY that prediction backfires. None.

A scalding hot take/prediction: Auburn goes 9-3 but that simply isn’t good enough. The Tigers pony up the $500 million to buyout Gus Malzahn and…wait a second. Do you guys hear that? OH MY GOODNESS. IS THAT URBAN MEYER’S MUSIC?!?

Ryan O’Bleness

ACC Champion: Clemson over Miami

Big 10 Champion: Ohio State over Iowa

Big 12 Champion: Texas over Oklahoma

PAC 12 Champion: Oregon over USC (Good God, the PAC-12 South is awful)

SEC Champion: Alabama over Florida

College Football Playoff teams: Alabama, Texas, Ohio State, Clemson

Team that will surprise people the most: Texas, or if I am being a homer, Michigan State

Your most boring take/prediction: Clemson vs. Alabama rematch in the national championship game, with another Clemson victory.

A lukewarm take/prediction: Ohio State loses to Michigan State, but sweeps the rest of the conference to win the Big Ten East and eventual Big Ten Championship, then goes on to make a College Football Playoff appearance (with a first round exit).

A scalding hot take/prediction: Georgia, a top-three preseason team, finishes the season with three or four losses and doesn’t win the SEC East or come close to the College Football Playoff.

Zachary Manning

ACC Champion: Clemson over Virginia

Big 10 Champion: Ohio State over Northwestern

Big 12 Champion: Oklahoma over Iowa State

PAC 12 Champion: Oregon over Utah

SEC Champion: Alabama over Georgia

College Football Playoff teams: Alabama, Oklahoma, Ohio State, Clemson

Team that will surprise people the most: Minnesota

Your most boring take/prediction: Alabama and Clemson play for the national title.

A lukewarm take/prediction: OSU needs a late touchdown to sneak by Northwestern in the Big 10 Championship Game and earns a College Football Playoff bid.

A scalding hot take/prediction: Wisconsin finishes in the bottom half of the Big 10.

Kyle Thele

ACC Champion: Clemson over Miami

Big 10 Champion: Ohio State over Nebraska

Big 12 Champion: Oklahoma over Iowa State

PAC 12 Champion: Washington over USC

SEC Champion: Georgia over LSU

College Football Playoff teams: Clemson, Georgia, Alabama, Oklahoma

Team that will surprise people the most: Nebraska will spend time in the top 12 nationally.

Your most boring take/prediction: The Big Ten West is going to be really competitive, and because there are good teams this time. Not a bunch of trash teams falling over each other.

A lukewarm take/prediction: With the Big Ten being left out of the playoffs again and the SEC getting two teams in, it will be the last year of only four playoff teams.

A scalding hot take/prediction: Notre Dame is going to be bad. They are going to start losing early and unravel. It will be Brian Kelly’s last year in South Bend.

Matt Hoeppner

ACC Champion: Clemson over Virginia

Big 10 Champion: Ohio State over Nebraska

Big 12 Champion: Oklahoma over Texas

PAC 12 Champion: Oregon over Utah

SEC Champion: Georgia over Alabama

College Football Playoff teams: Clemson, Oklahoma, Alabama, Georgia

Team that will surprise people the most: Nebraska

Your most boring take/prediction: My playoff teams, as the parity in college football continues to only exist after the top five or six teams.

A lukewarm take/prediction: Big Ten missing the playoff again sets in motion the move to expand the playoff.

A scalding hot take/prediction: None of the teams ranked 6-10 in the pre-season AP Poll (LSU, UM, Florida, ND, Texas) will finish the season in the top ten.

David Harns

ACC Champion: Miami over Clemson (This will make MSU’s non-conference home game vs Miami next year a pretty cool thing to look forward to)

Big 10 Champion: Nebraska over Michigan (Michigan doesn’t beat Ohio State but because MSU and Nebraska do, the Wolverines find their way to Indy... but lose to the Huskers... but make the CFP)

Big 12 Champion: Texas over Iowa State (Both teams end up with multiple losses but someone has to take home the championship)

PAC 12 Champion: Washington over Arizona State (After losing to the Spartans, ASU makes it out of the PAC-12 South but loses to the Huskies who run the table in the PAC-12 North)

SEC Champion: Georgia over Alabama (finally)

College Football Playoff teams: Washington, Michigan, Michigan State, Georgia

Team that will surprise people the most: Iowa State

Your most boring take/prediction: Ohio State loses multiple Big Ten regular season games and doesn’t win its division for the first time since 2011.

A lukewarm take/prediction: Alabama doesn’t make the College Football Playoff for the first time ever.

A scalding hot take/prediction: Michigan State only loses one time in the Big Ten, but it’s to Michigan. Michigan only loses one time in the Big Ten, but it’s to Ohio State. Ohio State loses to both Nebraska and MSU. With carnage everywhere else in college football, this results in both Michigan (11-2) and Michigan State (11-1) making the College Football Playoff -- as the 3 and 4 seeds -- and Big Ten Champion Nebraska sitting out in the cold with its Big Ten championship trophy and its 10-3 record. The CFP immediately expands to six teams and the Big Ten immediately gets rid of its divisions and lets the top two teams play each other at the end of the year for the championship.
