After a loss to Arizona State, the Spartans bounced back by knocking off Northwestern. Michigan State will now look to stay undefeated in the Big Ten with a game against Indiana. See what our writers think about the matchup and other games around the Big Ten.

This one will probably hang close for most of the game, with MSU putting it away with a late score. Indiana has been decent this year, albeit against some subpar opponents. The Spartan offense will be good enough, but will struggle at times, as we have come to expect. The defense will be good overall, but Indiana’s passing game will pick up its share of yardage and put some points on the board. MSU wins and moves to 2-0 in conference play before things get tough next week at the Shoe.

I’ll shoot you all straight -- I cannot get a read on this Indiana team. They’ve smashed three high school teams this year and also got beat into oblivion by Ohio State. They may or may not be playing their backup quarterback. I have no clue what to expect from the Hoosiers. HOWEVER, I do know we can expect great defense from MSU and (probably) competent offense too. That’s enough for me to blindly stick a MSU victory on the board.

I think Michigan State’s offense will continue to look better and the Spartans go up a few scores early. The defense will continue to play well, and MSU will grab a fairly easy win.

I see a lower-scoring game, defensive game. Michigan State has historically had its way with Indiana, but each of the last three matchups between the two programs have been decided by two scores or less. The Indiana offense is a bit of a wild card depending on who is playing quarterback. Meanwhile, the MSU defense is one of the best in the nation. I see the Hoosiers having a hard time moving the ball and scoring points regardless of who is under center. I think this game is going to feel uncomfortable, with the Spartans leading for the majority of it, but IU hanging around. But Michigan State does what it takes to win on homecoming weekend.

Indiana is a weird football team this year. As of Tuesday, Dantonio was still unsure of who was starting at quarterback for the Hoosiers. They were horrible against Ohio State (as expected). I’m not sure fans know what they are getting into this weekend when it comes to IU. None of that matters though because Michigan State is simply the better football team. It’s my belief the defense will speak for themselves, and the offense will build off of what they did against Northwestern. Spartans take this one EASILY.

On balance, I feel pretty good about this one. Last week felt like MSU finally started to gel and they look ready to turn the page. The added subtle pressure of Coach D breaking the MSU record is also now in the rear-view mirror and I think that will help the overall team psyche. My computer likes MSU to just barely cover this week and spits out a final score of 31-14. I see a game similar to last week where IU scores a late, garbage time TD on the 3rd string defense.

I will note that if I ignore the preseason rankings, my algorithm actually likes both Purdue and Maryland in upsets this week, so that will be interesting to watch.

That’s right, Matt Coghlin makes TWO field goals! Or misses an extra point, who really knows at this point. The Spartans offense will continue to look balanced, even if they are a little sloppy throughout. The defense will continue to be dominant against an overmatched Indiana team. I see a late touchdown and probably a late turnover just to make things feel a little extra tight.
