According to reports from The Athletic, Michigan State quarterback Rocky Lombardi will be transferring out of East Lansing. The redshirt junior finished the 2020 season with 1,090 passing yards, eight touchdowns, and nine interceptions. Lombardi finished with a passing completion percentage of 53.5 percent. He last saw limited action against Ohio State. The highlight of the season for Lombardi was the win against Michigan where he threw for three touchdowns and 323 yards on 32 attempts in the upset victory. He did not dress against Penn State. There has been no indication of what programs will be seeking Lombardi’s services.

Looking forward to the 2021 season, Payton Thorne is the man to beat for the Spartans’ quarterback competition as he broke Michigan State’s freshman passing record with 325 yards against Penn State. Thorne had a stellar first half that included three touchdown passes. He will compete with Temple transfer Anthony Russo, redshirt freshman Noah Kim, and sophomore Theo Day. Michigan State also recently signed class of 2021 commit Hamp Fay.
