The University of Detroit Mercy Titans make the short trip west to East Lansing to take on the Michigan State Spartans at the Breslin Center on Friday night at 5 p.m. EST. The game will be broadcast on the Big Ten Network.
This will actually be the first game of the season for Detroit Mercy, as the Titans’ previous three contests against Richmond, Kentucky and Morehead State were all canceled. Last year, UDM finished with just an 8-23 overall record. For more on tonight’s contest, check out Sam Tyler’s game preview.
Meanwhile, Michigan State comes into this evening’s contest with an impressive 3-0 record, including wins over Eastern Michigan, Notre Dame and most recently (and most notably) Duke.
This is the 28th all-time meeting between the two universities. Michigan State is 19-8 overall against Detroit Mercy, but this is actually the first matchup between the two programs since the 2001-2002 season. The Spartans won that November 2001 contest, but the Titans had actually won three games in row before that from 1996 through 1998. Prior to that stretch, MSU had won the previous 11 games.
Here is the game thread for today’s contest— keep it civil.
Go Green!
