Michigan State is 17-16-1 against Penn State all-time, though Penn State has the 15-9 advantage in the LAZERZ PEW PEW Land Grant Trophy era of the rivalry. MSU has had some momentum in the series when played in Beaver Stadium, though, winning three of the last four.
The Spartans won 28-22 in 2010, clinching a share of their first Big Ten title under head coach Mark Dantonio. Then in 2014 MSU won a 34-10 blowout in front of a fairly empty stadium (I can attest personally it was a lackluster Nittany Lions crowd), but fell 45-12 in 2016. Then in a stunning upset that included last minute heroics by Felton Davis III, unranked MSU walked out of Beaver Stadium with a shorthanded squad having knocked off then No. 12 Penn State 21-17.
After the final regular season game this upcoming Saturday for Big Ten teams, the pairings for “Champions Week” or whatever stupid name they came up with for it will be determined for who Michigan State will play from the West division. Currently it could be any of the five teams that have just two wins as Michigan State did not play any of them. However, if they were paired today then MSU would likely face Purdue.
