Game Thread: Michigan State Spartans vs. Wisconsin Badgers

NCAA Basketball: Wisconsin at Michigan State Mike Carter-USA TODAY Sports

The Michigan State Spartans travel to Madison to take on a depleted Wisconsin Badgers squad at 1 p.m. EST today. You can catch the game on FOX.

Michigan State easily took down Wisconsin in the first matchup on Jan. 17 in East Lansing, winning 67-55. That was also the game where Cassius Winston broke both the MSU and Big Ten all-time assists record.

Flash forward to now, and Wisconsin has since had one player leave the program (sophomore guard, Kobe King) and another player suspended for today’s game (junior guard, Brad Davison). Wisconsin has lost three of its last four games, including two in a row, and checks in with a 12-9 overall record (5-5) in the Big Ten.

MSU on the other hand, is coming off of two straight wins — a gritty road victory over Minnesota and a blowout home win against Northwestern. The Spartans remain tied with Illinois at the top of the Big Ten standings with an 8-2 conference mark, and enter today’s contest with an impressive 16-5 record overall.

With King gone and Davison out for disciplinary reasons, the Spartans are set up well to steal a road win at the Kohl Center. With that said, it is still an extremely tough environment to play in, and road victories have not been easy to come by this season. The Badgers will turn to Nate Reuvers, Micah Potter, Tyler Wahl and D’Mitrik Trice to try to weather the storm.
