The Spartans host Louisville in East Lansing for the first time since Dec. 2, 2015. That matchup was also part of the Big Ten/ACC Challenge. The Spartans beat the Cardinals 71-67 in that game. The last time the teams faced off was Nov. 27, 2018, also in the annual challenge. This game was in Louisville and the Cardinals beat MSU 82-78.
Michigan State will have a shot to tie the all-time series against Louisville this season. Currently MSU trails in the all-time series, with the Cardinals winning six game and the Spartans winning five contests. Louisville owns the longest win streak at three games from 1959-1993. The Spartans had a two-game win streak twice in the series, from 1999-2009, and again in 2015 in the NCAA Tournament and the following regular season. The Cardinals have never won in East Lansing, going 0-3, however, MSU also is 0-3 in Louisville. The Cardinals are 3-2 on neutral courts.
As for the overall records in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, the Big Ten trails 7-12-3. However, the league is on a two-year win streak after winning the challenge in 2019 (8-6) and 2020 (7-5). The interconference challenge dates back to 1999.
