110 Spartan Student-Athletes Recognized as Winter Academic All-Big Ten Honorees

MSU led the Big Ten with four honorees maintaining unblemished cumulative GPAs — three from the women’s swimming/diving team and one from the men’s hockey team

The Big Ten Conference announced the winter sports Academic All-Conference Team today and Michigan State Athletics was very well represented. Of the 1,130 student-athletes, 110 of them are Spartans. Of the 1,130 Big Ten honorees, only 25 student-athletes had perfect 4.0 PGAs, and a conference-leading four of them were from Michigan State.

The MSU’s men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams had 47 student-athletes on the list — 25 on the women’s team and 22 on the men’s team. Three of the four perfect MSU GPAs belonged to members of the women’s swimming and diving team with the fourth perfect GPA belonging to a member of the men’s hockey team.

The four student-athletes at MSU with perfect GPAs:

In the conference, Michigan State trailed only Rutgers in the men’s basketball category, with 10 Spartans honored for their scholastic achievements:

It’s worth noting that, in order to be eligible for Academic All-Big Ten selection, students must be on the official squad list as of March 1 for winter sports and have been enrolled full-time at the institution for a minimum of 12 months and carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.

The Big Ten’s list of honorees featured 81 men’s and 89 women’s basketball students, 79 men’s and 114 women’s gymnasts, 189 men’s and 285 women’s swimming and diving students, 190 wrestlers and 103 men’s hockey students.
