Michigan State’s 2022 class just got its start on the defensive side of the ball in a big way with three-star safety Malik Spencer out of Buford, Georgia. Spencer has also played linebacker at Buford High School.
The 6-foot, 170-pound product is rated as a three-star on the 247Sports Composite and is listed as the No. 33 safety prospect in the country as well. He also ranks as the No. 50 recruit in the state of Georgia, and No. 534 in the 2022 class overall.
While his rating is a three-star, his offer sheet makes it seem like he is underrated in that regard as he holds offers from USC, Auburn, Miami (FL.), Michigan, Indiana, Nebraska, Minnesota, Kentucky, West Virginia, Arizona State and other Power Five schools.
The defensive backfield has certainly been a point of emphasis this offseason for Mel Tucker and company, as the Michigan State staff has also reeled in Chester Kimbrough (Florida), Marqui Lowery (Louisville) and Khary Crump (Arizona) as incoming transfers to MSU.
