Just a day after Michigan State’s long snapper Bryce Eimer entered the transfer portal, 2021 in-state recruit Michael Donovan has committed as a preferred walk-on to the Spartans.

Listed at 6-foot-3 and 230 pounds, Donovan hails from Beverly Hills, Michigan and played for Ernest W. Seaholm High School in Birmingham. Rubio Long Snapping services ranks him as a 4.5 star prospect and No. 39 overall in his class.

The reviews on Donovan seem extremely glowing. He is praised as having great form, good size, and as being incredibly open to coaching and working to improve his game. He will provide valuable depth at the position given recent departures. Besides Eimer’s departure from the roster, previous starter, Jude Pedrozo, entered the transfer portal earlier this offseason.

Michigan State also signed long snapper Hank Pepper to the 2021 class and he will be on scholarship. He is considered a five-star long snapper by Kohl’s Kicking and ranked as the No. 1 long snapper in the 2021 class, according to 247Sports. He has no relation to former MSU long snapper Taybor Pepper and also was used as a linebacker in high school — earning first-team linebacker and Defensive Player of the Year honors in Arizona’s Class 6A.

Donovan offered the following on the announcement of his commitment to MSU:

First off I would like to Thank God for all of the blessing in my life. I also would like to thank my parents and my sibling for always supporting me through everything. This process has been tough and very long, but my family has been by my side the entire time. I would like to thank Coach DeWald and the entire Seaholm football family for everything they have done for me. Thank you to Terry Richardson and Scott Sypniewski for getting me started in this process. Thank you to Mr. Scofes, Mr. Bogle, and Mr. Popp for always supporting me throughout this entire phase of my life. Next I would like to thank Andrew Robinson for making me the player I am today. I don’t know where I’d be without Andrew as a coach. Finally, I would like to thank Chris Rubio. Rubio has supported me throughout this entire process, and completely changed my life. With this being said I’m blessed to announce my commitment to MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY. Go Green!

Go Green indeed!
