The Michigan State Spartans men’s basketball team may have had to wait until the season had basically started before knowing its Big Ten conference schedule for the 2020-2021 season, but the 2021-2022 season is already back to normal in the scheduling process it would seem. That is because earlier this afternoon the pairings were announced for the league schedule by the Big Ten office.

The Spartans will play the following teams next season in Big Ten action:
- Home Only – Indiana, Nebraska, Purdue
- Away Only – Iowa, Ohio State, Rutgers
- Home & Away – Illinois, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Northwestern, Penn State, Wisconsin
The Spartans will get to face the Hoosiers, Cornhuskers, and Boilermakers just once, and in East Lansing at that. Road trips to Iowa, Ohio State, and Rutgers will be the sole matchups against those three schools. Then the Illini, Terps, Wolverines, Golden Gophers, Wildcats, Nittany Lions, and Badgers will all be both home and away.
The full schedule and when each game will be played, along with pairings and dates for the Gavitt Tipoff Games, Big Ten-ACC Challenge, Battle for Atlantis bracket, and other non-conference opponents will come later this summer, likely in August for the league schedule, and perhaps in the fall for the rest.
Currently, the Spartans’ only game on the schedule with a for sure date and opponent will be the Dec. 1 matchup against Kansas in the Champions Classic at Madison Square Garden.
