Another day, another Mel Tucker pull from the Mountain Standard Time Zone.
The latest recruit from out west to join Michigan State’s 2022 class is three-star tight end Michael Masunas.

Masunas is the second Arizonian of the class, joining three-star offensive lineman Gavin Broscious. His commitment also comes three days after Colorado-based three-star offensive tackle Braden Miller committed to MSU, too. He is the third player to commit to the Spartans since the dead period in recruiting ended on June 1 (linebacker/safety Quavian Carter was the first to commit this month).
As of now, Masunas is tabbed as the No. 77-ranked tight end prospect and the No. 23-rated recruit overall in the state of Arizona, according to 247Sports. Masunas is also high school teammates at Hamilton (Chandler, Arizona) with four-star quarterback Nicco Marchiol, a high-priority target for the Spartans who will be announcing his commitment decision on Monday.
Masunas was an official visitor earlier this month, coming to East Lansing the weekend of June 11. He visited or camped at TCU, SMU and UNLV prior to his MSU visit, and also officially visited Utah the following weekend. He held additional offers from the likes of Tennessee, Arizona, Florida State, Maryland, Army, Navy and others.
The 6-foot-5, 235-pound prospect is the lone tight end of the 2022 class thus far, and the second recruit at the position who Tucker and tight ends coach Ted Gilmore have recruited to MSU, joining Texas-based prospect Kameron Allen from the 2021 class.
Michigan State’s 2022 class is now at eight committed players in total.
