The event, presented by Sparrow Health System, takes place on Monday, Aug. 23 from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. in Spartan Stadium and is free to the public. Stadium gates open at 5:30 p.m.
In 2020, “Meet the Spartans” did not happen, of course due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With the pandemic still very much a threat and the Delta variant of the coronavirus surging across the country, the occasion will look a little bit different this year with the health and safety of the student-athletes, staff and attendees all in mind.
Instead of getting to meet Michigan State football players up close and getting photos and autographs, as had been the case for previous “Meet the Spartans” events, fans will instead get the opportunity to watch the team practice inside Spartan Stadium and get a first-look at Mel Tucker and the 2021 Spartans.
Additionally, the happening includes $1 concessions, giveaways, fan activities, merchandise and apparel vendors, MSU cheerleaders, the MSU dance team and Sparty. Parking will be free on specific lots on campus, which will be announced at a later date.
The official press release from MSU Athletics states that further details regarding “Meet the Spartans” will be announced at a later date.
