Michigan State Spartans head coach Mel Tucker’s media availability on Tuesday included news about two Spartan players we might not see in Week One against Northwestern.

Sophomore wide receiver Ricky White and freshman defensive back Michael Gravely — who are still listed on the roster — have not been participating in team activities, according to Tucker. Neither player was seen at the “Meet the Spartans” event on Monday night.

The reasons as to why both are missing out on team practices and workouts aren’t clear, as no reason has been stated despite White being rumored to be away from the team throughout the offseason.

White — who smoked Michigan’s secondary like a group of Alaskan Salmon last season as a true freshman — also missed the bulk of last season with an injury. Should he not be able to play in the opening weeks of the season, MSU will likely plug in sophomore Tre Mosley.

Gravely — a true freshman who was an early enrollee this past winter — comes in as a three-star safety. While he was not expected to be on the two-deep to start the season, it’s worth something to keep an eye on in the next coming weeks.
