Michigan State Basketball adds four-star power forward Jaxon Kohler to 2022 class

Kohler is rated as a top-70 prospect via the 247 composite

The 2022 recruiting class for the Michigan State men’s basketball program just got a big addition, literally and figuratively, as four-star power forward Jaxon Kohler made his pledge to the Spartans.

Kohler is rated as the No. 67 overall player in the 247 Sports Composite rankings and the No. 11 power forward. He is listed at 6-foot-9 and 250 pounds.

Kohler hails from American Fork, Utah. Although, he is originally from Utah, the bruising forward plays his high school ball at Southern California Academy.

He is the second commit for Tom Izzo’s 2022 class, joining point guard Tre Holloman. Kohler had offers from USC, Oklahoma, Kansas, Illinois, Nebraska and Iowa, among several others. Michigan State offered Kohler on Sept. 1 and he took his official visit to East Lansing on Sept. 11. — the same weekend several Michigan State basketball alumni returned to campus.

From his 247Sports scouting report, evaluated by recruiting analyst Brandon Jenkins:

“Kohler is a very skilled and productive post prospect who has one of the highest floors in the class nationally. He has good hands, outstanding footwork, a soft touch, and can score in a variety of ways from the low and high post or short-corner areas. He also is capable of stretching his range out to the arc at times. He finishes with both hands, has a consistent hook shot, and can face up from midrange. There are some concerns defensively and with his size for the position as Kohler is average athletically and does not have a natural position to defend but his feel and motor should help him long term.”
