College basketball season is so close you can almost taste it. In fact, practices can officially start the end of next week as the calendar flips the page into October! With that in mind, the annual open practice the Michigan State Spartans hold has been officially announced, though the time is slightly different this year than fans may remember.

Both the men’s and women’s teams will be holding an open practice on Saturday, Oct. 2 instead of the usual scrimmage held at a “Midnight Madness” event in prior years. With the football team hosting Western Kentucky next Saturday night with a 7 p.m. kickoff for the homecoming game, the afternoon open practices for both teams certainly makes for an exciting afternoon for fans, as they will be able to get in a little bit of hoops action prior to the gridiron bonanza just a few blocks and hours apart from each other.

Doors at the Breslin Center open at 2 p.m. with the women’s team holding an open practice for one hour beginning at 2:15 p.m. Following the women’s team, the men’s squad will begin its own open practice on the floor beginning at 3:15 pm.

For those needing parking information or a reminder for when tailgate lots open ahead of the game, the below below information was included in MSU’s press release:

Tailgate lots for the MSU football game will open at 1 p.m.. Fans without a parking pass for football may park in public access pay lots, including Cherry Lane Field (SE corner of Hagadorn Road and Shaw Lane).

The men’s team will open the season on Nov. 9 at Madison Square Garden against the Kansas Jayhawks in the Champions Classic, with the game time still to be announced. The women’s team also begins its season on Nov. 9, playing against Morehead State in East Lansing at the Breslin Center, with the game time still to be announced.
