MSU hosts Brown on Saturday 12-6-22. Tip off at 4:30 PM. Brown is coming in on a five game winning streak, winning four straight home games for the first time since 2003-2004. The five game winning streak features a who's who of NCAA tournament teams like University of Rhode Island(2018,2017,1999,1998,1997,1993,1988,1978,1966,1961), Hartford(2021) and Bryant)(2022).
Brown is coming into East Lansing scoring an average of 65.4 PPG on 44.1% shooting. On defense they allow 64.1 PPG and averages a whopping 7.7 STEALS PER GAME. MSU, on the other hand, averages 4.6 Steals per game.
Brown has no player on their roster taller than 6'8", their staring lineup consists of:
Kino Lilly Jr. 6'0" FR G 15.9 PPG
Paxson Wojcik 6'4" JR G 12.8 PPG (Name may sound familiar)
Nana Owuu-Anane 6'8" FR F 10.0 PPG
Kalu Anya 6'8" FR F 8.3PPG
Dan Friday 6'4" SO G 8.2 PPG (From Detroit)
In the win against Stony brook Lilly Jr went off for 19, 5 & 2 and 3 steals. Team had 9 steals in that game. In their most recent win over the URI Rams they 6 steals.
Brown is very guard centric, play with sound fundamentals but they do turn the ball over 14.6 times a game vs MSUs 11.2 TOPG.
Let's face it, this is another guard centric team with no length, if Mady, Jaxon and Joey do not absolutely dominate this team, downgrade your expectations for the season. We should have plus athletes at every single position although Lilly is a talented player.
Since we are all smarter than Izzo, I would suggest our strategy be just to play our game and feed the post often, we should have some time to work on MSU, instead of heavily focusing on the opponent. I would like to see reduced minutes from Tyson, Joey and AJ in this, somewhere between 24-28 Minutes, as these guys have been playing too much at 36,34 & 31 MPG respectively.
I will be at this game and just got tickets to the Buffalo game on December 30th and the Nebrasketball game on Jan 3rd.
