Some basics to sound like a pro:
The Spartans are limping to the finish line - literally. Against Indiana, Michigan State had only 45 healthy scholarship players. Injuries during that win have some projections even lower for this game. Still there have been some bright spots in an otherwise lost season.
The defense played decently well against Indiana considering it was down to third and fourth string players in many key positions. Offensively, Katin Houser had his best showing - particularly a game winning drive. The redshirt QB was clearly helped by the return of talented tight end Maliq Carr.
Penn State is a tough test for any team. The Spartans will need to dig deep to end this season on a win.
Penn State fans are frustrated by their season. For most teams a 9 and 2 record would be an achievement. For the Nittany Lions it was a disappointment. The losses came to Big Ten east foes Ohio State and Michigan, clearly leaving PSU out of the Big Ten Championship game and thus the college football playoff.
The offense for Penn State has taken the lion’s share of the blame this year. The offensive coordinator was even fired after their second loss. It could be a rough outing for the maligned offense as starting QB Drew Allar left last week’s win over Rutgers with an apparent shoulder injury. Allar is expected to play against the Spartans but shoulder injuries have been known to linger and impact QB performance.
Penn State won’t reach its pre-season goals but is still playing for a spot in a “New Year’s Six” bowl.
